“Amendment 82’s purpose is clear: to make it more difficult for communities and policymakers to reduce reliance on natural gas in the future. It is part of a concerning trend to take away local authority over community planning, energy and land use.
Buildings represent a significant source of pollution in Colorado due to fossil fuels used for heating, cooling and cooking. Communities across the state are exploring strategies to reduce this pollution, including energy efficiency improvements, electrification incentives, building code updates, cleaner technologies and support for renewable energy. Amendment 82 would make those conversations and investments more difficult by elevating one fuel source over all others to constitutional status.“
