Amendment 82: Constitutional Right to Purchase and Sell Natural Gas
“A coalition of environmental groups, including Conservation Colorado, 350 Colorado, the League of Women Voters, and more, strongly oppose the measure. They believe the wording is ‘intentionally misleading’ and may provide legal cover to overturn rules that prevent air and water pollution. "‘We believe that corporate polluters and monopoly utilities will use [the amendment] to overturn lots of different things that are in place now to protect our communities.’”
‘No Pollution in the Constitution’: Advocacy groups urge voters to reject natural gas ballot measure
“‘Corporate billionaires are trying to buy their way into our state constitution. They want us to vote for their right to pollute,’ said Jenny Gaeng with Conservation Colorado. /But that is their mistake because as Colorado voters, we see through this. And on November 3rd, we will let them know it's a no on amendment 82.’”
Guest column: Legislators sound alarm over Amendment 82
“Why would huge corporations spend money to write themselves permanently into our constitution to protect something that’s already legal in our state? The answer is that this amendment is about giving companies a powerful new legal tool to challenge the rules that hold them accountable.“
Colorado voters to decide whether ‘right to natural gas’ should be enshrined in constitution
“Burning natural gas produces nitrogen oxides, which are a key ingredient in ground-level ozone pollution. Those nitrogen oxides combine with volatile organic compounds on hot summer days, and the pollution contributes to climate change and harms human health.”
Conservative group’s ‘right to natural gas’ initiative makes Colorado’s 2026 ballot
“‘[Amendment 82]’s real purpose is to ban and overturn the rules that protect our health and safety from corporate polluters through a radical, permanent change to our state constitution,’ Nordini said. ‘Nothing like it exists anywhere in the country, and for good reason: our Constitution is meant to protect fundamental rights, not guarantee one industry’s profits.’”
Right-to-natural-gas initiative qualifies for Colorado's fall election ballot
“Colorado elections officials have qualified a measure for the fall ballot that could make it a state constitutional right to buy and sell the fossil fuel.” Amendment 82
